莱曼α森林中的星系外流信号

摘要:恒星形成星系通常都有强烈的外流,这些外流会把星系周围中性的星系际介质(igm)向外吹出,从而在莱曼α森林上留下无吸收间隙。我们利用红移在3到3.5的三个高分辨率类星体光谱,通过我们的解析模型,对不同大小的无吸收间隙的丰度做了分析。这些间隙的统计性质与我们模型给出的结果符合的很好,即质量在10的10次方个太阳质量以上的星系晕产生的气泡的特征半径约在0.48mpc/h。这两个值与理论上的预期相符,而且观测到的间隙基本上被很深的吸收特征包围,这与外流吹出的气体会堆积在气泡壁上的物理图像一致。

observing galactic outflows in the lyα forest
abstract:strong outflows from star-forming galaxies can push the intergalactic medium surrounding a galaxy away. when observing the lyα forest of a distant quasar, such systems in the foreground can produce segments in the lyα forest without any absorption, or absorption-free gaps. we have analyzed several high resolutionspectra of quasars at high redshifts. the gap statistics agrees well with a model in which galactic halos above a minimum mass scale of ten to the tenth solar mass produce bubbles with a characteristic radius of 0.48 mpc/h. both numbers are consistent with theoretical expectations, where the minimum galaxy mass reflects the threshold for infall of gas out of a photo-ionized igm.the observed gaps are typically bounded by deep absorption features as expected from the accumulation of swept-up galactic outflows in the lyα forest gas on the bubble walls.
